The Allen County Land Bank was first started in 2016, with Rachael Gilroy being the administrator. The goal of the land bank is to take tax delinquent, vacant, dilapidated homes throughout Allen County and demolish them, or rehab them if possible. If the foundation is determined to be in good enough condition, we could look at selling or donating the house to a contractor to rehab and sell. After a home is demolished, we will look at possible buyers. The reason we tear these houses down is to make the area look nicer and more cleaned up, so when it comes to disposing of the lots we want to make sure it is going to someone who will keep up on the property and keep it looking nice. More often than not, these lots are sold to adjourning neighbors to help expand their yard. In the past, we have donated properties to churches or villages and even habitat for humanity.
